What Were You Doing 10, 5, and 1 Year Ago?

I chose for this piece a picture of the painting Persistence of Memory by Salvador Dali. I always loved this painting perhaps because pondering old memories is one of my favorite things to do. I would even say I have an unhealthy habit of hanging on to the past. So today I will write down what I was doing 10, 5, and 1 years ago. 10 years ago would have been November of 1995, I was in my second year of college at EKU enjoying my freedom from my parents and learning to be an adult. However, I was also in the middle of my 5 year run of Dating Tommy, what a waste of my prime dating time. 5 years ago would have been 2000 and I was gladly dating no one at the time because I needed a long break after constantly dating someone all the time from the age of 16-23 (none of them were good choices). I was finally living in the city again after living in the armpit of the country for my first career job. I had a rocky year with my dad the year before, and we were finally on the road to patching things up because I was so messed up in the head and a real bitch, I thought the world owed me something for having a bad life. 1 year ago I was in my last year of graduate school (I had been going part-time for several years). I was feeling very successful at my job because I had just made the decision to take on a slightly new position, the one my graduate degree would qualify me for. I was also worried about my boyfriend Walid, who had gone back to Egypt to be with his dying father. I was missing him terribly, trying to help him through watching his dad suffer, and wondering if he would come back to the USA. Please click on the comment section and share what you were doing 10, 5, and 1 year ago, it should be interesting to hear.

I've just been browsing through blogs when I discovered this one. I love it. A lot of creative idead here.

So, ten years ago, in December 1995, I was working at the Turkish-American Association as an EFL teacher. It was my first work place after military service. I worked there for three years. Also, I'd just gotten engaged to get married. In December 2000, five years ago, I was teaching in another language institution. I'd been married for four years with no kids. It was my third year of teaching at the Izmir University of Economics last year. Still no kids! Interesting to think about a specific time in the past. Life hasn't changed a lot for me, I guess.
